Der Blick / The Glance technics
technics

The acoustic-part of "Der Blick" is a new sound-invention, a permanent syncronized combination of loudspeakers and head-phones, which gives you a space-atmosphere, like a "three-dimensional-film". It makes possible to hear the sound not only in space like stereophonic or quadrophonic systems, but to enter directly to inside of the sound-object, as a microscope.

The sound of "Der Blick" is composed on the basis of trombone's, tuba's, contrabass', bass-flute's and percussions' natural-sounds without any transformation. This kind of sound of these instruments have been never heard before, so it is an unusual and unknown sound of the well known instruments.

While you are hearing the instrumental sound in the fullest detail, you can also enter into a fine detailed human eye on the video monitor, and this "mandala-like" eye helps the concentration.

The sounds were recorded from inside and outside of the instruments to produce a special "7-phonic" effect, with 3+2 loudspeakers and a 2-channels headphone. So you can hear the "inside-sound" of the instrument in the headphone and in the same time the "outside-sound" from the loudspeakers.

The studio-experience shows that the following equipments are suggested:
1 DA 88 Tascam with Syncboard (Timecode)
1 Mixer with 8 inputs and 8 outputs
5 loudspeakers (d&b F 1220)
1-2 subwoofers B 1 d&b (incl. amplification system)
4-6 head-phones (Beyer DT 331) with head-phone amplification system
1 professional monitor and video recorder (4:3 format, ca 70-90 cm diagonal)

The number of head-phones depends on the size of the performance-room. You can get the best results in a room sized ca. 6 x 6 m (or bigger), where this multimedia-piece could be performed non-stop for 4-6 people in each session.
